Changes to Australia's language testing system

This year NAATI has introduced a new certification system for the translating and interpreting (T&I) sector in Australia.This new certification scheme will also be used by government to set industry payment conditions for independent contractor interpreters and translators. More to follow on that in a coming post.

NAATI certification will become the industry standard for working in the profession. The change is considered as an important step in the ongoing professionalization of the sector in Australia and will lead to improved standards in the long term.

Whilst the credentialing system primarily exists for consumers of translating and interpreting services, NAATI considers the benefits of the new system apply right across the industry. Specifically:
